The heart of my private practice involves working with individuals in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. I see both adults and adolescents, and I do some couples therapy as well. I am available for supervision and consultation with other mental health professionals.
Most of my patients first come to see me for help in coping with challenges in relationships, work, school, health, or the creative process. They may struggle with depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness, or a sense of confusion about direction and meaning in their lives. I have an expertise in working with people of faith as well as a sensitivity to racial and cultural diversity.
The people who find my practice most useful are able to shift from a focus on how to “fix” outside problems to understanding themselves better. With a psychoanalytic approach like mine, the crux of the work is to explore the unconscious internal factors that influence so much of how we relate to ourselves, others, and the outside world. The unconscious inner world is shaped by our early experiences and our unique responses to them. It affects us so profoundly that it might be called the control center of our lives. If we become more conscious of these deeper layers of experience, we have the opportunity to live more intentionally rather than passively under their sway.
The aim of my practice is to facilitate change that is not short-lived but lasting, not just for today but for a lifetime.
